“The European Union, under the auspices of the European Commission, is preparing to invite a Taliban delegation to Brussels. The purpose of this invitation is to hold discussions with the Taliban regarding the deportation of Afghan asylum seekers by European Union countries… A meeting that comes after EU representatives have already traveled to Afghanistan twice to lay the groundwork and secure an agreement with the Taliban administration.
“In exchange for their agreement with the EU, the Taliban will gain access to substantial financial aid, international legitimacy, control over Afghan embassies and consulates in EU member states, as well as other political concessions.
“In August 2024 and July 2025, Germany deported more than 100 Afghan asylum seekers to Kabul with Qatar’s assistance.
“Reports from the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) and Human Rights Watch indicate that numerous cases of ‘torture, ill-treatment, and arbitrary detention’ have been documented against returnees. These reports indicate that Taliban security forces continue to take revenge on migrants returning from Europe and other countries.
“The daughters of families deported to Afghanistan will not be allowed to continue their education under the Taliban regime. The EU is therefore complicit in this crime by the Taliban, which violates women’s fundamental rights and condemns these young girls to a bleak future.
“For the women of Afghanistan, this amounts to double-speak: on the one hand, crocodile tears are shed over the hellish situation of Afghan women; on the other, open and secret agreements are struck with these women’s worst enemies, and the rolling out of the red carpet for them at the EU headquarters in Brussels.”
