RUSSIA Statement by Andrei Kalinkin, member of the Russian Group of OCRFI supporters

14 février 2022

The world is on the brink of a new imperialist war. One of the points where these rival bourgeois interests clash is the conflict between Ukraine and the separatist republics of Donetsk and Lugansk.
It is in this context that the confrontation between Russia and NATO has intensified. Both sides are building up large military forces in the conflict zone and launching economic, diplomatic and propaganda attacks against each other.
But this does not mean any benevolence towards the NATO imperialists. [...]

UKRAINE Volodymir*, Ukrainian Labour activist

14 février 2022

Dear comrades, The regime established after 2014 is a military-police regime. All left-wing opposition is banned, as well as communist "ideology", "symbols" and press. The trade union movement has been weakened by leaders who collaborate with the regime. Strikes are sporadic, mainly in the mines. Any kind of protest against the regime is immediately labelled as manipulation by the "Russian aggressor". Political terror reigns on a large scale: according to the most conservative estimates, 5 to 10 thousand people are in prison, for "terrorism" and "separatism". The economy is in decline, not only because of the coronavirus, but primarily because of the regime's policy of war and de-industrialisation. [...]

The Council of State ordered this Thursday the temporary suspension of the activities of the Socialist Workers' Party (PST) and the closure of its premises.

We denounce with the utmost determination these iniquitous decisions. They are unacceptable attacks on the democratic rights and freedoms won by the youth revolt of 5 October 1988, which cost 500 people their lives – coldly machine-gunned down.

KAZAKHSTAN Workers Rise Up Against Corrupt Regime

10 janvier 2022

The doubling of the price of a liter of gas at the end of December was the last straw. As early as 2 January, in the industrial west of this former Soviet republic, the population and in the front line, the working class got together and set out their demands. In the days that followed, the mines and hydro carbon companies went on strike one after the other. The government – destabilized and alternating bloody repression and measures supposed to appease popular anger – called on Putin's regime in Russia to send in special repression forces. At the time of writing, no one knows what will happen to this massive revolt. One thing is certain: despite thirty years of Mafia-style privatisations, of anti-working class repression led by the former party leaders of the Soviet bureaucracy who sold the country to the multinationals, the working class of the former USSR is standing up and fighting.
