Proposal from the VIIth Congress of the Workers’ Party (France)
Mandated by its VIIth National Congress (19-20 October 2024), the Workers’ Party states:
- The genocide in Gaza, the war of extermination in Lebanon, the butchery in Ukraine and Russia, the wars of plunder in Africa and the preparations for war against China are all part of a single imperialist war, a war between the major capitalist powers to plunder resources and share out areas of influence.
- The unity of this imperialist war was given by the Biden administration on 20 April 2024, when, on the same day, it voted 61 billion dollars in additional military spending for the war in Ukraine, 26 billion for Israel and 8 billion for preparations for war against China.
- In the international labour movement, the imperialist war has reshuffled all the cards. On the one hand, there are those who side with the warmongering governments, whatever the pretexts put forward. On the other, there are those who fight the warmonger governments and seek to preserve the independence of the working class.
- No one can claim the best internationalist traditions of the labour movement if they do not condemn this imperialist war as a whole, if they pretend to condemn one aspect of the war while supporting another, or even if they pass the others over in silence.
- No one can claim to be opposed to the war if they vote for the war credits (as the ‘left’ members of the European Parliament on more than thirty occasions, as the so-called ‘socialists’ who were members of the Democratic Party in the American Congress on 20 April, or as the pseudo-communists in the Russian Duma have done), or if they conceal these votes.
- No one can claim to be on the side of the workers if they make the slightest concession to NATO, the UN and war warmongering governments, whether Biden, Putin, Netanyahu, Macron, Scholz, Starmer, Sanchez, Zelensky and so on.
- Given the imperialist nature of the war, the responsibility of those who want to put an end to it is to fight, in every country, for the overthrow of the warmongering governments according to the old slogan: ‘the main enemy is in our own country’. Fighting against war therefore means helping the working class to wage its class struggle against the warmongering governments. And so, for us in France, it means helping the working class to wage its class struggle against the Macron-Barnier government.
- Mobilising the working class and young people against the war, and therefore against the warmongering governments, means saying: ‘Not one penny, not one weapon, not one soldier for their dirty war!’ This means fighting for the confiscation of military spending for the needs of the population.
- In every country, against the warmongering governments and imperialist institutions (G7, NATO, UN, etc.), against the attempts to pit peoples against each other, we must counter with the unity of the workers of the whole world, i.e., the fight for a Workers’ International.
- The Workers’ Party, on the mandate of its VIIth Congress, transmits this position to all activists, groups and labour movement organisations with which it is in contact.
It proposes to all those who share its general line to convene, together and as soon as possible, an international initiative against war and exploitation, for a Workers’ International.
