“Workers’ unity against Höcke, the AfD and the bourgeois parties! »

An appeal from workers’ activists in Thuringia

An appeal by workers‘ activists, launched several weeks ago on the initiative of Peter Hintermeier (IG Metall) and Klaus Schüller (railway unionist), both members of the “Committee for a Workers Party”, proposes a different policy, the only one that can stand in the way of social devastation, war and the extreme right. Here are some excerpts:

« Höcke and the AfD are against workers and democracy. Höcke and his AfD must not come to power. Their objectives are clear: they want to dismantle social rights and democratic freedoms (…). They want to deport millions of our immigrant colleagues, neighbours and fellow citizens. They hold human rights and human dignity in contempt.

“They must not come to power, they are not the solution!

“They rely on the Scholz government’s anti-social measures, on the dismantling of the Social State, on cuts to education, health and social security, childcare, healthcare, pensions… in the name of rearmament and the militarisation of society. The policies of Scholz*, Lindner* and Habeck* only benefit the arms industry and the banks.

“Workers’ unity against Höcke, the AfD and the bourgeois parties also means workers’ unity for a different policy and a different government, in the interests of the working population and young people, women, retired people and all those who need public services to function! »

The appeal specifies that the legitimate demands of all workers – German or ‘immigrant’ – are « incompatible with armament budgets. That’s why: neither with Moscow nor with Washington! Not a penny, not a weapon for the warmongers! Confiscate the war billions for schools and hospitals! An immediate ceasefire, whether in Ukraine or Gaza. For a policy and a government in our interests!”

* Scholz (SPD) is Chancellor, Lindner (FDP) is Finance Minister and Habeck (Greens) is Economics Minister.

Germany

For the first time, German carmaker Volkswagen plans to close factories in Germany, claiming that “Germany (…) is losing more and more ground in terms of competitiveness”. The plan includes com- pulsory redundancies, cal-ling into ques- tion a 1994 agreement guaranteeing jobs until 2029.
