Women need our support

On the occasion of March 8th, the Spontaneous Movement of Afghan Women sends this message from Kabul (published in full on the website of the International Committee for the Defense of Afghan Women: https://defendafghanwomen.org/)

« While, since August 2021*, Afghan women have been suffering the torments of hell under the Taliban regime, the major powers and the international community are making concessions and negotiating secret or official agreements with the Taliban.

“While more than fifty anti-women decrees have been issued and implemented by the Taliban to systematically deprive women of all their human and civil rights, the international community remains silent.

While women’s demonstrations demanding « bread, work and freedom » are brutally repressed in Kabul and other provinces, and protesters are arrested, tortured and killed, the international community has taken no serious action to stop the atrocities committed by the Taliban (…).

“The women of Afghanistan, themselves victims of decades of war, wholeheartedly understand the pain and problems of the people, especially the women, in Gaza, Palestine and Ukraine, and express their sincere sympathy on the occasion of International Women’s Rights Day. The humanitarian catastrophe currently unfolding in Gaza and Palestine, and the war in Ukraine, in which civilians, women and children are the main victims, must cease immediately.

“On the occasion of March 8th, International Women’s Rights Day, the Spontaneous Movement of Afghan Women (SMAW) once again calls on human rights institutions, women’s rights activists and all altruistic men and women to continue their actions of solidarity with the women of Afghanistan, in contrast to the shameful indifference of their governments to the disastrous situation in Afghanistan. (…)

“Take an active part in the campaign to grant asylum to the women of Afghanistan who are raising their voices, and don’t let hundreds of unfortunate women lose their lives under Taliban physical torture in prison, and hundreds more under house arrest, subjected to moral torture. Afghan women need your help and support in these difficult times. »
