Haiti handed over to gangs: who is responsible?

Haiti has been handed over to the terror of gangs. The Western press is roiling with calls for civil war from a former policeman turned gang leader nicknamed « Barbecue ». But who is responsible for the chaos? Berthony Dupont writes the editorial in the latest issue of the anti-imperialist weekly Haïti Liberté:

« The country is paralyzed. The institutions are on their last legs. The rotten, corrupt regime is falling apart. All the cynicism and corruption of the clique headed by the monstrous Ariel Henry (the Prime Minister installed by the United States and currently banned from visiting Haiti editor’s note) have been unmasked. He has clearly shown that he is prepared to commit any and every atrocity and crime against the Haitian people, to wreck and squash as many citizens as necessary to maintain his unconstitutional, illegitimate and unpopular power. (…)

This  decaying  situation  is illustrated by the latest events, which have laid bare all the rot and turpitude of this regime. While Ariel Henry is strutting his stuff on all the international platforms, railing against the gangs, he is behind the scenes plotting with certain criminals to accelerate insecurity so as to make effective the arrival of a multinational foreign force, ostensibly to combat the very gangs with whom he was plotting. What cynicism! What audacity! (…)

“But be that as it may, we have to stop the hecatomb (…) To do so, we need a real break with certain established traditions. The people  must  oppose  not  only Ariel Henry, but also any foreign military or police presence with a view to rethinking or reshaping imperialist domination in Haiti. Popular mobilization must not be disarmed and must resist throughout the country! Ariel Henry and his clique, imperialism and its henchmen, must stay out of Haiti, so that the popular masses can gather their breath and confront the problems of the future. Only the people, through their own organized struggle and their ability to defend themselves, can bring an end to the ignominy of capitalism, whose destructive policies are plunging the country into the most appalling chaos. »
