On January 13, workers and young people around the world responded in large numbers to the call for an International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.

In London (Great Britain), notes our correspondent, « the people of the UK joined together in London to show their solidarity with the Palestinian people” once again. Despite the pro-Israel stance of the Labour Party leaders, trade union organizations as such called for demonstrations.

In Johannesburg (South Africa), our correspondents were present at the rally in front of the US Consulate General, which included Zwelinzima Vavi, General Secretary of the South African Federation of Trade Unions (SAFTU).

In Mexicali (Mexico), a picket at the entrance to the university was an opportunity to massively distribute an open letter to President Lopez Obrador, calling on him to break off diplomatic relations with the State of Israel, as the Colombian government has done.

In Basel (Switzerland), 3,000 demonstrators from all over the country marched against genocide, according to the activists who circulate Büezer Tribüne/Tribune ouvrière. « Israel bombs, the USA and Switzerland finance », chanted demonstrators who denounced the « complicity of Cassis« , the Swiss Minister of Foreign Affairs.

In Paris and other cities in France, Workers’ Party activists were present at demonstrations and rallies.
In many countries, the political conditions imposed by repressive regimes prevented workers from expressing their solidarity in the streets, report our correspondents in Burundi, Hungary and Russia.

In Afghanistan, where the fundamentalist Taliban regime has crushed all democratic freedoms, Radical Left activists (LRA) report that « socialist, democratic, secular and women’s activists have been meeting underground. The people of Afghanistan, who experienced the barbarity of the U.S.NATO occupation from 2001 to 2021, stand in solidarity with the suffering of the Palestinian people inflicted by Israel and the U.S. » They support « the legitimate resistance of the Palestinian people » and « the struggle for a secular and democratic state for all Arab and Jewish inhabitants of Palestine« ..

Thanks to all our correspondents
